A well-respected international banker, Josephine has for 3 decades played various key roles in treasury management, strategy implementation, investment and commercial banking.
She is currently Ecobank Transnational’s Regional Executive for the Central, Eastern and Southern Africa Region (CESA) and Managing Director for Ecobank Kenya. In this role she has oversight over 18 of Ecobank’s 33 affiliates, managing close to 30% of the Group’s balance sheet and the second largest revenue pool within the Group. She is responsible for driving strategy execution and business performance for CESA, the region with the largest revenue contribution to the Ecobank Group. She also doubles as Managing Director, Ecobank Kenya.
Before taking on this role, Josephine was the Group Executive for Commercial Banking, for the Ecobank Group exercising lead responsibility for the commercial banking operation of the Ecobank Group in 33 countries across Africa. Her work focused on creating relevant solutions to help build African SMEs and Local Corporates and positioning them to become viable and sustainable. Josephine is passionate about uplifting women and pioneered the flagship and award winning gender financing program for the Ecobank Group – Ellevate by Ecobank – that delivers financial and non-financial products to women-led businesses across the 33 African markets where Ecobank is present.
Prior to becoming Group Executive Josephine has held various senior positions within the Ecobank Group as Chief Operating Officer for Ecobank West African Monetary Zone/East & Southern African where she supported the expansion of the Ecobank Group into West, Eastern and Southern Africa. In her role as Regional Treasurer covering Ghana, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Guinea and The Gambia she managed a total balance sheet of over $3billion. She also served as the Managing Director of Ecobank Gambia, where she worked with the team to position the bank as the number one bank on the market.
Josephine has a BA and an MBA from the University of Ghana and is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants. She is passionate about seeing women excel. Her foundation – SheBlooms – provides financial support educational materials and mentorship to young girls. Josephine is also a music hobbyist who has helped shape the Ghanaian gospel music scene and continues to inspire several young singers.
