Obaid AMRANE

CEO / Ithmar Capital

Mr. Amrane was appointed by His Majesty King Mohammed VI as Chief Executive Officer of Ithmar Capital in February 2019. He previously served as Deputy CEO of Masen, the national agency responsible for implementing Morocco’s renewable energy strategy.

Since 2022, he has chaired both the International Forum of Sovereign Wealth Funds (IFSWF) and the Africa Sovereign Investors Forum (ASIF), a multilateral platform launched by Ithmar Capital. He also held leadership roles, taking on pivotal positions within strategic initiatives, international organizations, and global platforms.

With a background in economics, finance, and engineering, Mr. Amrane is renowned for his expertise in projects spanning development, legal structuring, partnerships, and financing. His knowledge of ESG-driven companies and the energy transition led to his appointment by the European Commission as a member of the High-Level Expert Group on Scaling Up Sustainable Finance in Low- and Middle-Income Countries, whose recommendations were published in 2024.

Earlier in his career, he was Managing Director of the Moroccan subsidiary of the BPCE Group (2006–2010), developing the French banking group’s activities in banking and real estate. He also held senior roles at the Moroccan Ministry of Economy and Finance, including Public Finance Inspector, Head of the Debt Restructuring Service, and Head of Credit at the Treasury Division.

Mr. Amrane holds dual degrees in Engineering from the Hassan II Institute of Agronomy and in Finance from the General Inspectorate of Finances, along with certification from the Association of Investment Management & Research.
