Steering Committee

ADVISORY AND OPERATIONAL

Make high-level decisions using expert knowledge to develop proposals to strengthen African finance.

The AFIS Steering Committee is a multidisciplinary and dynamic group comprising around sixty senior experts from across Africa’s financial industry, including banking, insurance, capital markets, mobile money and fintech. The Committee’s members are seasoned practitioners, innovators and thought leaders who provide operational depth and a comprehensive understanding of the challenges and opportunities shaping African finance. This rich variety of perspectives ensures the Committee understands the realities of different markets and financial services, reflecting the continent’s evolving financial landscape.

Responsible for transforming strategic vision into tangible achievements, the Steering Committee is the driving force behind AFIS’s mission. Meeting regularly throughout the year, its members engage in open dialogue, debate pressing issues and collaborate on actionable proposals and initiatives.

Through this consultative, solution-oriented process, the committee is structured around five priority themes:

  • Digitizing the SME Financing Chain
  • Unlocking Local Capital for Broader Development
  • Building Deeper Debt Capital Markets in Africa
  • Unlocking Africa’s Insurance Growth
  • Expanding Interoperability.

On these various topics, members identify areas for improvement, draw on expertise from across the sector, and make practical recommendations. The Committee’s ongoing work ensures that AFIS consistently delivers measurable value, advancing sector-wide innovation and supporting sustainable development goals across the continent.
