
Hana Tehelku is the Director General of the Ethiopian Capital Market Authority (ECMA), appointed in August 2024 to succeed Dr. Brook Taye. With more than a decade of experience in legal, regulatory, and prosecutorial affairs, she brings deep expertise in governance, economic law, and institutional reform to Ethiopia’s emerging financial ecosystem.
Before her appointment, Hana served as Legal Counsel at ECMA, where she played a pivotal role in shaping the Authority’s legal frameworks and enforcement systems. Between 2021 and 2024, she was Deputy Director General of the Economic Crime Directorate at the Ministry of Justice, leading national investigations and prosecutions of financial crimes. Prior to that, she was Team Lead at the Anti-Corruption Directorate, focusing on public enterprise offenses, and earlier served for over four years as a Public Prosecutor at the Federal Attorney General’s Office.
Her career began in 2013 as a Tax Attorney at the Ethiopian Customs and Revenue Authority, where she developed strong expertise in tax law and fiscal compliance.
Hana holds two master’s degrees: one in Law (Human Rights and Constitutional Law) from Addis Ababa University, and another in Community Development and Theology from the Ethiopian Graduate School of Theology. She also earned a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from Mekelle University, specializing in administrative and international law.
