How AFIS 2025 Unlocked Africa’s Domestic Capital
In 2025, the AFIS Annual Summit brought together over 1,200 leaders from the African financial industry, alongside ministers, central bank governors and global investors, to address one of the continent’s most pressing priorities: the mobilisation of domestic capital at scale.
Under the theme “Unlocking Africa’s Financial Power: Time to Mobilise Domestic Capital at Scale”, this edition focused on how African financial institutions and policymakers can better harness local resources to finance the continent’s long-term development. At a time when global capital has become more selective and costly, the need to strengthen domestic and regional financial systems was at the heart of discussions.
African and international leaders explored concrete strategies to unlock institutional capital, improve project origination and develop financial instruments tailored to local markets and risk profiles. Particular attention was given to the role of stock exchanges, fintech platforms and insurance markets in deepening capital formation and addressing emerging risks.
The Summit also highlighted the importance of leveraging innovation and strategic partnerships to channel domestic savings into key sectors such as infrastructure, energy, agriculture and SMEs. Discussions underscored the need for regulatory alignment and hybrid financing structures to build a more resilient and integrated financial ecosystem.
As a result, AFIS 2025 reinforced the central role of African financial institutions in shaping a new financial architecture — one rooted in regional leadership, smarter risk-sharing and the mobilisation of African capital for African priorities.
