Gokhan est directeur régional de l’industrie pour le groupe des investissements avec les institutions financières chez IFC, responsable de l’Afrique du Nord et de la Corne de l’Afrique (y compris l’Éthiopie, la Zambie et le Malawi). Auparavant, il a occupé le poste de directeur régional responsable du portefeuille de nouvelles activités et d’investissements d’IFC de 6 milliards de dollars en Afrique subsaharienne, en Europe, en Asie centrale et au Moyen-Orient.
Il a commencé sa carrière chez Fidelity Investments à Boston, où il a travaillé dans des fonds d’actions et de titres à revenu fixe, puis a rejoint l’équipe FIG M&A de Citigroup couvrant l’Amérique du Nord. Après quelques années au sein de la trésorerie de la Garanti Bank à Istanbul, il a rejoint IFC en 2005.
