Asfaw Alemu is the Chief Executive Officer of Dashen Bank S.C., one of Ethiopia\u2019s leading private banks, with more than 30 years of banking and executive leadership experience.
Since becoming CEO in 2015, he has led the transformation and repositioning of Dashen Bank, driving growth, innovation, digital transformation and strategic expansion. Under his leadership, the Bank has accelerated its digital journey, including the launch and rapid scaling of the Dashen Super App, while expanding digital payments and technology-enabled financial services.<\/p>\n
He has also championed strategic international partnerships, particularly with IFC, BII and FMO, leveraging their expertise, financing and risk-sharing capabilities to strengthen trade finance, SME and agribusiness financing, foreign-currency funding, financial inclusion and institutional capacity.<\/p>\n
Prior to becoming CEO, Asfaw held several senior positions at Dashen Bank, including Vice President of Operations, Credit Department Manager and Corporate Planning and Development Department Manager, and served as Board Secretary for eight years. He previously held senior roles at Wegagen Bank, the Development Bank of Ethiopia, Canadian Physicians for Aid and Relief, and Unity University.<\/p>\n
Asfaw serves on the boards of Nyala Insurance, EthSwitch, the Ethiopian Bankers Association and Debre Markos University.
