Dubbed by media outlets the \u2018Davos (World Economic Forum) of Africa\u2019, the Africa CEO Forum will take place in Kigali, Rwanda on 14 & 15 May this year.<\/p>

The event \u2013 organised by Jeune Afrique Media Group, convener of AFIS \u2013 will gather 2,800 business leaders, investors and policy makers from Africa and around the world.<\/p>

The Africa CEO Forum is co-hosted by the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and is the largest international meeting of the African private sector.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

AFIS Supervisory Council meeting<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/h3>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Our\u00a0thirty member AFIS Supervisory Council \u2013 made up of\u00a0central bank governors, regulators and executive leaders from the continent\u2019s leading financial institutions\u00a0\u2013 will\u00a0also\u00a0hold a meeting at the Africa CEO Forum.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

The Council is a\u00a0consultative and strategic body\u00a0that helps determine\u00a0the strategic direction of the AFIS platform.\u00a0Members include the chairman of Access Holdings\u00a0&\u00a0Coronation\u00a0Group, the CEO of\u00a0General\u00a0Insurance\u00a0at SanlamAllianz and the CEO of Bourse de Casablanca, Morocco\u2019s stock exchange.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

The meeting,\u00a0coordinated\u00a0by AFIS\u00a0Supervisory Council\u00a0Secretary General Olivier\u00a0Noel\u00a0–\u00a0who\u00a0sits on the Boards of\u00a0Rawbank\u00a0and Bank of Africa\u00a0–\u00a0will\u00a0include insights from Absa\u2019s chief economist\u00a0Jeff Gable.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Reinforcing a<\/span>cquisition finance<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

Strengthening bespoke acquisition finance\u00a0repaid in line with\u00a0the acquired company\u00a0cash flows\u00a0will\u00a0also\u00a0be part of the conversation at the Africa CEO Forum.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

A roundtable\u00a0will gather\u00a0leaders from Standard Chartered, Barclays, Nedbank, Standard Bank and MCB to discuss how\u00a0more\u00a0flexible, deal-linked lending\u00a0could encourage African M&A activity\u00a0and\u00a0promote consolidation across the continent\u2019s private sector industries.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

MCB\u2019s facility backing Invictus Investment Company\u2019s $200\u2013300m acquisitions show the model can work,\u00a0but\u00a0few African banks offer such financing, many firms are unsure how to qualify, and DFIs that could provide the long-tenure instruments view it as\u00a0too\u00a0close to investment banking.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Elsewhere,\u00a0in a separate session,\u00a0Visa\u2019s VP and Managing Director for East Africa Chad Pollock will join Charles Russon,\u00a0Group Executive for Africa Regions at Absa\u00a0to\u00a0examine\u00a0how to engineer consolidation in the tech and fintech industry.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Guests include Dr. Diane Karusisi \u2014 CEO, Bank of Kigali; Jeremy Awori \u2014 CEO, Ecobank; Dalu Ajene \u2014 CEO and Head of Coverage, Africa, Standard Chartered and Hannington Namara \u2014 Managing Director, Equity Bank Rwanda.<\/p>

The segment will ask if high commercial bank interest rates for business credit are sustainable or if companies could instead turn to\u202fprivate credit,\u202ffintech\u202fand\u202fother\u202fnon-bank\u202fsources.<\/p>

Lending\u202fis the\u202flargest revenue\u202fbase\u202ffor African banks,\u202fprojected to\u202fhit\u202f$52bn\u202fby 2030. But the latest data from Kenya\u2019s central bank suggests average\u202fcommercial bank\u202finterest rates on business loans\u202fare\u202faround\u202f17%, compared with\u202f3.6%\u202ffor\u202fcorporate\u202fborrowing in the euro area.<\/p>
